Churcher's Golf Day 2023

A full complement of teams took part in this year's Golf Day...

On a slightly blustery day in May 74 golfers (including two non-playing captains of OC teams) gathered at Petersfield Golf Club to raise funds for the Richard Churcher Foundation. With representatives from the wider Churcher's community, including Old Churcherians, Senior and Junior School parents (past and present), staff, suppliers and friends of the College, the day was a roaring success raising over £3,000 for the Foundation and the provision of bursaries.

The day kicked off with bacon rolls, coffee and chat, and a chance for teams to 'size up their opposition' before the main competition began. 18 four ball teams tackled the tough but enjoyable course at Petersfield, with varying levels of success but all in good spirits! Two 'halfway houses' sponsored by Independents by Sodexo were well stocked with Churcher's 1722 pale ale and snacks, ensuring players were well fed and refreshed as they made their way round the course. The afternoon ended in style with a 'two course' dinner at Petersfield Golf Club, during which the raffle was drawn, heads or tails decided and the prizes and winning trophy were handed out. Then, for those still going, it was off to the Queen's Head for more Churcher's 1722!

Congratulations to all the competition winners, the winning team, 'Jabba the Putt' and to winning captain, Jesse Cope, the new custodian of the coveted 'Greenish Jacket', Neil Pattenden for getting 'Nearest the Pin', Nigel Hunt for having the 'Alitex Straightest Drive' and last but not least Steve Moore who won the 'Robison Putting Competition' which was ably run by OC Brian Holliday (69). We also need to congratulate James Steiner who had a 'Hole in One' on the 15th and a big thank you to Agilico for buying everyone a drink at the Queen's Head at the After Party.

A huge thank you to our sponsors for the day - Agilico, Alitex, Robison and Independents by Sodexo - and to all the volunteer helpers who made the day such a success.

The Golf Day is a hugely enjoyable and popular event in our calendar, so please look out for next year's date so you can join in the fun. All abilites are welcome!
