The biggest-ever Churcher's Golf Day, in partnership with Analytic Building Contractors, was held on Friday 15 May 2026 at Petersfield Golf Club, raising over £12,000 for the Richard Churcher Foundation.
The sold-out event welcomed a record-breaking 25 teams and 100 golfers from the Churcher's community, including Old Churcherians, parents, staff, local businesses and friends. Players started arriving from 11.00am for pre-tournament refreshments of tea, coffee and a bacon butty before the staggered shotgun start at 12:55!
Even though the weather could not really make up its mind, this did not dampen the players' competitive spirit and the course proved to be in excellent condition. The golfers competed for the Putting Competition, sponsored by Robison & Co, the Longest Drive, sponsored by Alitex, and the Nearest the Pin, sponsored by KILROY Travel.
This year, there were also two 'Bolly Trolley' golf buggies, kindly sponsored by Analytic Building Contractors, zipping around the course offering our athletic golfers an optional fizz refreshment!
If that was not enough, the teams were kept hydrated and fed at the Halfway Houses, sponsored by Independents by Sodexo, serving an array of snacks and drinks, including the specially commissioned 'Credita Caelo' lager (named after the school's motto) and 'Greenish Jacket' pale ale, donated by sponsors AlgeBrew.
After completing their round, golfers were invited into the Club House for dinner and prize-giving. The Headmaster spoke at his last Churcher's Golf Day and introduced VIP guest, Sheila Walker, the great-great-granddaughter of 'Old Tom' Morris - the Father of Golf. Sheila spoke of her family ties, not only to Old Tom but to a Churcher's College boarder, William Morris Hunter, who sadly passed away from pneumonia in 1925 at the tender age of 15. We were honoured to host Sheila, who had travelled from her family home overlooking the 18th green at St Andrew's, to award a new trophy 'The Morris Cup', sponsored by Bishops Printers, in memory of her uncle William Morris Hunter and their family ties to golf.
Aided by a game of 'heads or tails', a raffle prize draw and an auction, the event raised over £12,000 for the Richard Churcher Foundation and the provision of bursaries - the largest amount ever raised at the Golf Day! A heartfelt thank you goes to all our sponsors and donors for their valued contribution and to everyone who took part.
