Former Classics teacher publishes book

Jasmine Elmer, exploring femininity and bringing the past into the present...

Former Churcher’s Classics teacher Jasmine Elmer (née Rendell), has been signed by Renegade Books for her debut book 'Goddess With a Thousand Faces'. Described as "wild, dark and divine... the first of its kind, Goddess with a Thousand Faces blends historical research with mythological retelling, taking an inspirational, enlightening and fiercely feminist deep dive into ancient goddesses to explore the modern concept of femininity."

Jasmine taught Classics at Churcher's College from 2008 to 2011 and is known as a 'straight-talking expert' on Channel 4, Channel 5, National Geographic, the Discovery Channel and History Hit. She uses modern platforms to engage the public in the ancient past with her 20 years of classical education as the knowledge base for her podcast 'Legit Classics'.

Following her time at Churcher's College, Jasmine taught Humanities in New Zealand, after which she returned to the UK to continue teaching and to explore other avenues. This voyage of discovery has seen her successfully enter the world of media as Jasmine endeavours to show the ancient world through a modern, relatable and powerful lens. Jasmine firmly believes that "the ancient world belongs to everyone and not just the elite few."

On the subject of her debut book, Jasmine explains: "it is a bold, global tale of the femininity of our goddesses of past and present, made alive through the vibrant retellings based on source material and supported by historical context. Non-fiction with soul!"  The reader should feel as if they are walking alongside the goddess, exploring her story and her culture before reclaiming her through their own feminine power.

The publication of Jasmine's book is set for September 2024. With more books on the horizon, our congratulations and best wishes go to Jasmine as she successfully embarks on this new chapter of her life!
