Saturday 4 July saw a fantastic day of sport as Old Churcherians returned to take on current pupils across cricket, water polo and tennis. Played in great spirit and with plenty of competitive edge, the day provided a wonderful opportunity for OCs to reconnect with friends and staff, and inspire the next generation of Churcherians.
The OCs emerged victorious in all four fixtures, but the matches were closely contested and showcased some excellent performances from both former and current students.
Girls' Cricket - Old Churcherians WON by 4 wickets
We were delighted to host the first ever OC Girls' Cricket fixture and what a match it was, with the Old Churcherians securing victory by four wickets. Churcher's 1st XI posted a competitive total of 106-6, but the OCs successfully chased down the target, reaching 107-6 in 14.2 overs. The match was played in excellent spirits and highlighted the continued progress of girls' cricket at Churcher's. We are looking forward to seeing it grow in strength over the coming years.
Water Polo - Old Churcherians WON: 9-7
The Water Polo match was equally competitive, with the OCs claiming a 9-7 victory. Both teams performed at a high level, demonstrating impressive skill and determination throughout a fast-paced contest, with the OC side ultimately edging ahead to take the win.
Tennis - Old Churcherians WON: 12-6
The Tennis fixture saw another strong performance from the OCs, who defeated the school team 12-6. Across a series of closely fought doubles matches, it was fantastic to see so many OCs from across the generations taking part and having fun. The Pimms 'hydration' station was particularly enjoyed!
Cricket - Old Churcherians WON by 2 wickets
The Open Cricket match provided an entertaining finale to the day's sporting action. Batting first, the pupils posted an impressive 165 for 4, with Olly Whittle producing a superb innings of 66 from 68 balls. It was a composed and accomplished knock, providing a fitting conclusion to his school cricket career. In reply, the Old Churcherians successfully chased the target, reaching 168 for 8 with only 2 wickets and a few balls to spare. Seb Herold (15) led the way with an excellent 31 from 29 balls, while Seb Royds (22) had the final say, finishing the match in style by striking a six to secure a two-wicket victory for the OC side.
Thank you to everyone who took part, supported from the sidelines, and helped make the day such an enjoyable celebration of sport and community.
