On a gloriously sunny day, over 110 Old Churcherians attended the annual OC Reunion Lunch on Saturday 9 May, representing year groups spanning seven decades from 1953 to 2016.
OCs were greeted by former staff members Gill Clarke, Jean Millard and Vanessa Johnson who oversaw the welcome and registration desk. Drinks, including the very popular 'Churcher's 1722' fizz, were served in the Donald Brooks Auditorium as OCs were invited to mix and mingle. A special selection of archival material was on display spanning the decades and OCs took time to identify the memorabilia relating to their school years and reminisce with friends as memories came to the fore.
After a warm welcome from the Headmaster, there was a surprise presentation of 'left behind' O Level and A Level certificates to the various OCs in attendance who perhaps accidentally (or perhaps intentionally!) had forgotten to pick up their certificates on leaving school.
Following the Headmaster's last ever OC Reunion lunch speech, when he both thanked and asked alumni for their continued support to the Richard Churcher Foundation and Futures programme, OCs were invited to lunch in the Dining Hall walking along the Tercentenary Path for their 'authentic' school dinner'. Many then enjoyed a tour of the school, whilst some preferred to take in the sun before heading off into Petersfield to visit other 'old haunts'!
It was a pleasure to welcome so many Old Churcherians on the day and we look forward to welcoming more next year - hopefully we can entice another 100 to come back!
