Huge congratulations go to John Lofthouse, teacher of Religion & Philosophy at Churcher's College and Assistant Head of Pupil Well-Being for breaking his own record! John ran a total of six endurance events over the Easter holidays to raise funds for Helen and Douglas House a charity set up to help terminally ill children to live life to the full.
John decided to raise money for Helen and Douglas House having raised funds for them last year in the London Marathon. However, John really wanted to do it again, but explains that 'I thought it wouldn't be right to ask people to sponsor two years running for doing the same thing'. Instead, he challenged himself to do four marathons in a month including Brighton, Paris, Milton-Keynes and London! On top of the marathons he also completed the Radley Triathlon, Enigma and Winchester ultramarathons, raising an incredible £4,000.
'I'm running for Helen & Douglas House in loving memory of Hemming Vramso, the son of two very dear friends Katherine and Hakan... Hemming was an absolutely wonderful little boy who tragically died of an aggressive brain tumour in October 2023 at the age of nine'.
Helen & Douglas House is a children's hospice located in Oxford, England that provides specialised care and support to terminally ill children and their families. 'They bring light in the darkest of times, and that is why I am fundraising for them'.
Our congratulations go to John on this tremendous feat of endurance and for raising such an incredible sum of money for a very worthy cause.
