At 6 o'clock on the last Friday in April history was made when the Girls 1st Cricket XI stepped out to play against Kingston Grammar School, this being the first ever senior girls cricket fixture. This momentous occasion was a fitting prequel to the match against Marylebone Cricket Club that took place the next week in glorious sunshine, with two Old Churcherians, brothers Fred (16) and James (18) McMillan, featuring in the MCC side. The school fell slightly short in the 50 over match, scoring 149 all out against 257 for 5, but it was a fantastic experience for those involved. Not only that, 5th Year Jorja made more Churcher’s College history in becoming the first girl to play in a boys 1st XI cricket side, impressively taking two wickets.
Pictured with brother Jude, they also became the first brother & sister pair to represent the school together.
