OC Joseph Myers (09) is based in Nairobi as a Regional Manager working across Africa for Move One Inc. They are currently looking for interns to join their rapidly expanding logistics company. Due to to visa/work permit requirements in most of the countries that Move One operate, graduates are required.
Joseph immediately thought of offering the opportunity to the OC network. At Churcher's he developed the skills and love for the more adventurous life which have been instrumental in getting him to where he is today. As Move One's Regional Manager, East Africa he says: "I blame Mr Eaton! Literally every weekend was spent either in a freezing kayak breaking the ice on the canal during DW training, or up a Welsh Mountain, at every CCF event, night exercise, trekking through Morocco on First Challenge age 14 or climbing a 20,000ft Himalaya at 17 - these aren’t 'normal' things to do at school and it makes Churcher’s what it is..."
Why an internship in Logistics?: '"Logistics is an industry that a lot of people don’t think of, but, in reality, it touches almost everything we take for granted as being 'here'. Virtually nothing is consumed where it is produced nowadays and most things that you’re looking at right now have been on a truck or a container ship at some point in life. Whether it’s a laptop in London or a Land Cruiser in the Congo - it’s got to get there somehow. This internship is a great opportunity for an open minded and adventurous individual to learn all the parts of the business to get a rounded knowledge of how things move, who moves them and the complexities of dealing with legislation that differs by country. What makes this opportunity a bit different is by virtue of the countries in which Move One operate. It’s not every day that you are able to learn about a new industry whilst being on the ground in Addis Ababa, but with full 'class-leading' back and head office support from a team that have been in the game for 30 years. We are continuing to grow across the continent and this internship gives candidates a great opportunity to spend some time getting to grips with the fundamental parts of the business and then, if successful, to be fast tracked into management of one of our new locations."
In answer to the question why would the job appeal to an adventurous OC graduate, Joseph says: "Churcher’s tends to foster a different breed to the norm thanks to the great opportunities that the school gives for adventure from a young age. You need to rough it a bit and get your hands dirty. We are looking for people who are searching for their first step into an international career. They need to be culturally aware and sensitive, with a willingness to learn. This is what Churcherians do and I would love to hear from anyone who might be interested."
