On a gloriously sunny day we welcomed over 70 Old Churcherians, who returned to the school for the annual OC Reunion Lunch, representing year groups ranging from 1955 - 2015. In particular, it was wonderful to see so many OCs celebrating their year groups ending in '5'!
OCs were greeted by former staff members Gill Clarke, Jean Millard, Vanessa Johnson and Kathryn Shaw who oversaw the welcome and registration desk. Drinks, including the very popular 'Churcher's Fizz', were served in the Donald Brooks Auditorium, where OCs could mingle and see photos and memorabilia relating to their school years from the archive. After a warm welcome from the Headmaster, there was a surprise presentation of accidentally (or perhaps intentionally..) left behind O' level and A'level certificates to three OCs in attendance! After much laughter, OCs were then taken into Old College via the Tercentenary Path to enjoy a delicious 'school dinner' of pie and mash plated up from the servery in the dining hall.
Following lunch, Tours around the school's premises were led by current a Sixth Form student and staff including Richard Hoe and Ian Crossman. OC Heather Gibbons (15) said...
'It was so much fun to spend the day with old friends, laughing about our old haunts and stories, and reliving memories from 20 years ago. Churcher's has changed and developed so much and it still has the brilliant spirit we all remembered.”
It was a pleasure to welcome so many OCs back to College - watch this space for news of next year's event!
