OC news |
Open Day is always a highlight in the Churcher's calendar and a signal that unbelievably another school year is coming to an end. It's an opportunity to showcase the school, meet staff and for us in the Development Office, to catch up with members of our community over a glass of Pimm's It's a tough life sometimes..!
We were treated to a beautifully warm day and amongst the melee of parents and prospective parents touring the school, we were delighted to welcome back a number of OCs, who were taking part in the hotly anticipated water polo and cricket matches against the current senior school teams.
After the inaugural water polo match last year, this year's OC team were desperate to get themselves even on the scoresheet and there was confident talk in the build up to play. What followed was a fantastic display of physical prowess, skill and fun, with the OC team finally finishing victorious with a score of 9-5.
Suffering with a slightly depleted OC team, the OC cricketers took to the main pitch fuelled by lunch (and a few beers!). The match was one for the bowlers with Anna Sales taking 3 wickets from 3 overs and Ben Kelson bowling 3 overs for 7 runs. Also to be mentioned, Dom Porter made an unbelievable catch on the boundary, juggling it three times before eventually gloving it. He then caught out the following batter in similar fashion on the next ball! The final score was:
Churcher's College 1st XI 133 runs for 7 wickets off 20 overs
OCs 68 runs for 9 wickets off 20 overs
A win for the school by 65 runs. Next year, we'll be back!
