The school's annual Futures Convention took place on Thursday 5 March with over 65 stands, almost 100 exhibitors and two engaging talks. This year’s event had a focus on ‘Entrepreneurship’, which was chosen due to its relevance in an ever-changing job market and developing skills such as problem solving, resilience and resourcefulness. Alongside the fantastic array of careers represented, we had an ‘Entrepreneurship Hub’ where pupils and their parents had the opportunity to talk to business owners about their work and experiences. The event was hugely popular with over 300 pupils and parents attending throughout the evening.
Away from the buzz of the exhibition in the sports hall, there were two speakers: Callum Russell, from Independent Gap Advice, offered brilliant and insightful information about ‘Curating a Meaningful Gap Year’, followed by Dr Daniel Stewart, co-founder and CEO of Viridi, an innovation driven start-up, who delivered the Key Note Speech ‘Building a business and changing the world’.
We had a record number of OCs representing their various sectors and businesses this year. We caught up with Ben Hines (93) and Lucy Dixon (04), in the Entrepreneurship Hub, as they have both turned their passion for music into a career! Ben, founder of 'Moving Performance', works with the world's best musicians and the world's most prestigious forward-thinking companies said 'I am really impressed with the curiosity and thoughtfulness of Churcher's students at the Futures evening'. Lucy Dixon founder of 'House of Lemon' a boutique live-music and events consultancy was delighted to take part in the Futures Convention stating that 'I love to give back', remarking she only got into her career by people giving her advice as a 12 year old!
We would like to thank all the exhibitors and speakers for their time, energy and enthusiasm and for making the evening such a great success. We look forward to our next Futures Convention in the spring of 2027.
