A wonderful evening was spent tasting award-winning Nicholson Gin and mingling with parents, OCs and members of the local community at the newly renovated Petersfield Museum on Friday 3 March. The event celebrated the link between Churcher's College and Nicholson Gin and was in honour of William Nicholson who lived locally and was a governor of the school, an English distiller of Nicholson Gin and who generously gave the land that Churcher's currently sits on at Ramshill to the school in 1881.

The Museum was a delightful place to host the evening, with Churcher's College's Tercentenary items still on display alongside other artefacts and relics from Petersfield's past. The Museum, which was once the local Police Station, still retains many of its original features allowing guests to visit the two cells and the Magistrate's Court at the rear of the building. It was here that an amusing re-enactment of two court cases took place during the evening. 'Actors' with the aid of props were selected from the crowd to 'stand in the box' and be cross-examined under the watchful eyes of a stand-in Wiliam Nicholson who was not only a local Magistrate, but a Liberal Party MP.

Nicholson Gin is the orignial London Dry Gin and was founded in 1736 and it's smooth, crisp gin is currently still distilled in London to the original proprietary recipe which was first crafted in 1830. Also available for tasting on the night was the Blood Orange Gin - both bottles have a distinctive label which incorporates an image of the River Thames - as pictured above.

Through the support of our guests and the generosity of Nicholson's Gin and the Petersfield Museum, over £500 was raised for the Richard Churcher Foundation, which provides bursary awards to families whose children would otherwise be unable to benefit from a Churcher's education.

If you missed attending this unique evening, Nicholson's have kindly extended the offer of free delivery and a 10% donation to the Richard Churcher Foundation until the end of the month. Click here for the Nicholson's shop and use the code: 1722 at the checkout.
