Churcher's celebrates 300 years - a message from the Headmaster

29 Nov 2021
300th

From the Headmaster

We all have them once a year but some of them are the more significant ones, the 18th, 21st and 60th especially. I am talking birthdays, of course, and for us, for Churcher’s College, our 300th certainly seems significant.

As with most major birthdays it is a good excuse to get the family together and that is very much what we hope we will be able to do this year; reconnecting today’s Churcherians with Old Churcherians and friends and families associated with the school and the surrounds of Petersfield.

Who would have thought that the name and benefaction of an 18th Century doctor in a small, market town would still be celebrated today, but, ever since our foundation in 1722, one of the joys of this family of Churcher’s has been the mutual support everyone has given to everyone.

It is right that we not only keep Richard Churcher’s name alive but also the spirit of his philanthropy through the Richard Churcher Foundation. In this tercentenary year it is especially poignant that we are still able to support those children who without the Foundation would not be able to access the education and opportunities of this school.

I am delighted to be able to provide you with a little information about our history, how you can get involved with the celebrations and the Foundation and very much hope you enjoy reading the enclosed brochures.

By most, if not all, measures the school is flourishing today and that is almost entirely down to its pupils and their parents. Hopefully we will be able to reflect back on this birthday year as one of grand celebration but also the start of a new and exciting era for the School, its family, its Foundation and the continuing part you play within it.
