Dick Spendlove (64) was selected to run for England in 2024 as part of the England Athletics Age Group Masters programme.The race was an international against Wales as part of the Great Manchester Half Marathon on May 26th. Dick finished 1st in the M75-79 age group in the excellent time of 1:44:09.
Dick has been a serious runner since he discovered the sport of orienteering in 1976, and competes regularly in orienteering events, and fell, trail and road races. In 2016 he won the English Fell Running Championships in the M70 class, and in 2021 was GB Sprint Orienteering Champion as an M75. In 2022 he was successful at the World Mountain Running Championships in Ireland, winning an M75 individual silver medal and a team gold for Great Britain. His best parkrun 5km in 2024 as a 78 year old was at York, where he finished in 22m 25s. Not far behind former Olympian Dame Kelly Holmes!
