Senior Old Churcherians return to the College for the afternoon...

OC news

On the afternoon of Wednesday 13th September we were pleased to host a group of Senior Old Churcherians and their guests, who returned to the school for a trip down memory lane.

The gathering proved to be a lovely opportunity for these Old Boys to catch up with some of those they knew from years gone by and reminisce with others about how it was to be a pupil at Churcher’s between the years of 1940 and the early 1970s.

Sandwiches and cake were eaten, and many stories exchanged including memories of watching doodlebugs fall from the sky during WW2 from Ian Hodgkinson (47) and being the student who held the record for the longest javelin throw, Rodney Revans (65). The Headmaster, Simon Williams, was shown a copy of a well-preserved arithmetic book from many years ago, and some of our OCs were even able to identify themselves in their school photo. It was also a lovely moment to see two of our lower sixth students chatting about their experience of Churcher’s now and how this is perhaps just a little bit different to those in the room!

The afternoon concluded with a tour of the school which included a viewing of the Assembly Hall which many commented looked almost exactly as it used to. And there was enjoyment for many at being able to walk through what was the Headmaster’s garden, knowing that walking through this when they were pupils would have resulted in a punishment!

We hope to see these Senior Old Churcharians in the future and thank them for taking the time to spend a few hours with us this September.
