There was no 'fooling' around when Founder's Day was celebrated at Churcher’s College on 1 April and the last day of term. The Headmaster and Captains of College gave a presentation to all pupils during Assembly about Richard Churcher and the foundations of the School. They were under no illusion of the different conditions that many found themselves back in the early eighteen century. Fast forward 300 years and life in Petersfield looks very different…

We are keen that the pupils recognise the past but also think about the future and those less fortunate than themselves. During Founder’s Day, we also celebrated their fantastic fundraising efforts for the Richard Churcher Foundation and provision of bursaries through the 300 Pennies Challenge. We are delighted that they have embraced the challenge so positively, already smashing the target we set them to match the £3000 that Richard Churcher bequeathed to create the School.

On 1 April, Petersfield Museum opened a display celebrating 300 years of Churcher’s, including artefacts held in the School archive. We urge Old Churcherians and our wider community to take a look at the exhibition and pay a visit to the museum in St. Peter’s Road, which has undergone a relocation and transformation in recent years.

As we celebrate the 300th year of the school, we are getting in touch with Old Churcherians to reminisce about their time at Churcher’s and share their stories with the Churcher’s community. We are hoping to create regular articles called ‘Churcher’s Chat’ and each month will feature OCs from a different decade in the School’s history. We hope you enjoy them and help to bring back memories of Churcher's of your own. If you would like to be involved in future articles please email Catherine.

You may also have seen the monthly articles that look back at the history of Churcher's College, taken from the book produced by Donald Brooks and Gillian Clarke in 2005. You can read these in the 'News' section of Churcher's Community.
