2025 Futures Convention
On the evening of Thursday 6 March, under a buzz of excitement, the school held its annual Careers Convention, now rebranded as the ‘Futures Convention’. The Sports Hall turned into an Exhibition space and was packed with over 400 pupils and parents visiting stands from almost 60 companies.
Alongside the exhibition, there were talks held in the Donald Brooks Auditorium about ‘Futures’ provision for pupils whilst at Churcher’s and beyond. Nick Smith, Head of Development talked about how the Development Office at Churcher’s College can provide opportunities for Old Churcherians and the wider school community to remain connected to Churcher’s and to one another, offering support to students following their departure from sixth form, their journey onto university and beyond. In addition, Dr Verney spoke about why pupils should not choose a career and, finally, there was a fantastic talk from Callum Russell from Independent Gap Advice about how to plan a high-quality gap year.
For the first time ever, the school also hosted a CV Clinic with almost 30 volunteers reviewing CVs with pupils. The clinic proved to be very popular and will now become a regular fixture at the Convention.
It was wonderful to welcome several OCs returning to school to represent the companies they now work for; Lucie West (19) Audit Manager for RSM UK, Toby Swindells (17) Chartered Surveyor of CBRE Group, Jack Stevens (16) of Cisco, Emily Langrish (19) Visitor Experience Supervisor for the Petersfield Museum and Art Gallery, Will Hegan (98) Managing Director of EMEA, and Charley Cunningham (12) of Just be Maritime.
The 2025 Futures Convention was the largest careers event to date. It was so encouraging to see it thriving, bigger and better than ever! Our thanks go to all the amazing exhibitors for making it happen and to all those attending to make it such a great success.
Lower 6th Networking Evening
On the evening of Thursday 27 February the school held a very well-attended and successful networking evening for the Lower Sixth. Over 70 volunteers gave their time to the event including a couple of OCs, namely Will Ismay (86) and Emily Sacco (09).
The purpose of the evening was to enable students to develop and practise their face-to-face networking skills – a skill which proves hugely beneficial to our students.
Despite a few students looking a little nervous initially, they quickly relaxed and started reaping the benefits…thanks to the support and energetic engagement of our volunteers. The proof of this was at closing time when there was no mass exodus! Conversations continued beyond their natural end, and students ebbed away slowly…full of high praise for the experience and a new confidence in their networking skills. Congratulations goes to the Lower Sixth for admirably rising to the occasion and it is with very deep gratitude that we can thank our brilliant volunteers for making it happen.
